Manchester Hoteliers’ Association Strategic Initiatives
Talent and addressing the skills gap
- MHA supports the recruitment and retention of employees into the industry and will be actively involved in recruitment fairs and initiatives aimed at promoting the hospitality industry for Manchester
- MHA is in an official partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University and runs a mentorship programme with final year hospitality students
- MHA works with a number of local and regional colleges offering support in the form of student tours; college lectures; placements; engagement in regional recruitment fares to attract new talent into the industry and is working with the MHA HR group to establish a HR charter for the city
Sustainability
- MHA supports the Greater Manchester Mayor’s pledge for no straws in the hospitality industry
- Members of our Association are working together to reduce the use of plastics within the industry
- MHA is also looking at other sustainable or environmental initiatives it can support in the years ahead
- We also aim as a community to reduce energy costs within the Hotel industry in Manchester
Conferences and economic impact
- MHA has established a conference initiative working group aiming to attract more conferences and major events to the city
- Our Association is developing a conference ‘welcome’ for all hotels and a ‘Manchester’ themed welcome for major events. These contribute to the satisfaction and rebooking of major events into the city
- We also support marketing campaigns to create more national and international demand for Manchester as a destination to host major events
Environmental support
- MHA supports local charities; In 2018 it is Breast Cancer Care, The Christie, Hospitality Action and Mustard Tree
- MHA is working with partners to support the campaign to help homelessness and support the city wide campaign
- The Association is also supporting Manchester City Council’s ‘clean-up’ campaigns in a bid to keep the city region clean for visitors
