HOSPITALITY ACTION

October 2007

Hospitality Action

Hospitality Action in 2005 awarded over £35k in grants to beneficiaries in the Northwest of England. Lancashire alone was awarded £11k just over £6 had gone to beneficiaries in Manchester city.

The family members scheme where HA provides vital communication and assistance for our retirees who often find themselves growing more isolated with the passing years.

This is done through a bi-monthly newsletter, a listening ear, remembering birthdays and Christmas with a card and gift.

Every year we host a get-together for our family members. We have around 91 family members in the Northwest, 10 are situated in Manchester city and 27 members in the Lancashire area. If the MHA would like to support this scheme then we would love for a hotel in Manchester to host Family members’ reception on our behalf.

We have hosted a few in London (with the help of Strand Palace Hotel and the 51 Buckingham Gate) and they have proven to be very successful and rewarding experience.

In Manchester your money helps out Mr and Mrs. X (due to data protection the person has asked his personal details to be kept confidential). Mr X, aged 65 has worked for the hospitality industry for 14 years as a HGV driver. In 2003 Mr X was forced to give up his job due to declining health. His health deteriorated at a rapid pace and his condition severely restricted his mobility.

HA stepped in and was able to award Mr X an essential needs grant towards the cost of a mobility scooter and storage shed. We were there to offer financial and emotional assistance to the couple when it was urgently required.

Another beneficiary that regularly receives help from HA is Mrs C from Manchester. She has worked in the hospitality industry for over 15 years before she had a routine operation that went wrong and was signed off for poor health. As a consequence Mrs C incurred debts and faced eviction. HA were there to intervene and take some of the pressure off Mrs C and help her rebuild her life.

The funds raised by MHA have been tremendous but as you are aware the need is greater. Every year the amount of financial and emotional assistance increases and to meet the demand we wish you all the success to raise even more money than last year!!!
