2020 Megatrends for the next decade
08/09/2011 09:25:10
Service 2020: Megatrends for the decade ahead is an Economist Intelligence Unit report, sponsored by BDO.
The research clearly highlights just how vital good customer service is and will continue to be in order to survive in today and tomorrow's world. Maintaining standards despite the "need for speed", outsourcing to customer service experts (like ourselves) and the use of technology are all covered in the report which is avaliable in the Resource area of the World Class Serice website.
The 2020 Megatrends in customer service are:
1. Global competition will drive up service standards
2. Companies must maintain service standards in the face of “the need for speed”
3. Firms must learn to use the increased transparency brought by social media to their advantage
4. Companies must use new sources and types of data to rethink the way they track and personalise their service
5. Good employees WILL remain fundamental to good service but with technology as an enabler
6. More firms will outsource aspects of customer service to new kinds of specialists
7. The rise of the mass affluent and other customer segments will force companies to find new product or service niches
8. Customer expectations, including the purpose of the store, are evolving with new technology

VAT windfall for hoteliers
05/09/2011 14:52:24
A ruling by the European Court regarding no-shows puts hoteliers in line for huge VAT rebates.
Before the decision, the UK tax authorities took the view that when a guest with a reservation fails to turn up or contact the hotel to cancel his or her booking, the guest still had a right to use the room. This, argued HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), meant that the room had been supplied and the money the hotel received should be subject to VAT as normal.
However, the European Court ruling states that such income should be treated in the same way as forfeited deposits.
